Winter, 2013: The Borges Lists
As Dave chose the topic of the first podi, Will has chosen the topic of the second podi of Pentad the Second. The topic shall be any book that appears on one of two lists compiled by Jorge Luis Borges. The first was a list that appeared in his “Prologues to The Library of Babel“, and the second is a list entitled “A Personal Library”. A longer work listed on either list will be acceptable, but it was also mutually agreed that any collection by on author featuring one or more of the specified short stories would also be acceptable (in instances where it would prove difficult to find the exact collection Borges was referring to). In extremely marginal cases, the combatants will convene and render a verdict.
And that is that! The competition shall run from January 1st, 2013 to January 1st, 2014. May the ghost of Borges bless this competition!
The Autumn, 2011 competition has been completed. The final scoreboard is below:
|#||Title/Author||Date Read||Pages||#||Title/Author||Date Read||Pages|
|1||—||—||—||1||The Time Machine by H. G. Wells||1/13||128|
|Average Book Length:||0||Average Book Length:||128|
* Note: It was decided mutually that books of non-epic poetry would count for half the number of their total pages, seeing as the text of many poems do not take up even half of a full page.
