Tove Jansson, the dreary Finn, is at it again for one last time. Moominvalley in November is the last of the Moomin books (which is a shame), and it reads more like a suicide note than a children’s book…
Writing Moominland Midwinter must have been something akin to a sorrow spree, which, I imagine, is something like a killing spree, but rather than running around like mad killing things for no reason, you run around spreading and feeling sorrow for yourself and everything else—with gusto…
Finn Family Moomintroll is an extremely charming book, and a fine addition to the Moomin series…
Having read Comet in Moominland, I was expecting some children’s stories that were both cute and somewhat good. In the place of that are nine very much adult stories that happen to be populated by characters from a series of children’s books…
